A boy named Palmer does not want to be a wringer like his friends Henry and Beans. There is a girl across his street that does not want him to be a wringer too. His friends are forcing him to be a wringer. Every time someone turns 10 they get a treatment. Someone else licks their thumb and sticks their thumb in dirt and then they push down on the persons arm who is turning 10 for 10 seconds. Each second counts for how old the person is. Then after the person is done the treatment they are 10 years old. Then when the treatment is over you don't ever get the treatment again. After you get the the treatment you have the choice of being a wringer or you don't want to be a wringer. Once you have made your choice you can not change your choice of being a wringer or not. So, Palmer decided not to be a wringer and he doesn't want to be a wringer because he does not like to hurt animals. He knows that they wring pigeons necks to put them out of their misery and other people think that being a wringer is fun. He does not think that being a wringer is fun at all. He thinks that wringing a pigeons neck is very mean to hurt a harmless animal.
